IDEAL releases electrical
safety products catalog
Ideal Industries’ new catalog features its comprehensive
line-up of products that promote electrical safety and help
customers stay compliant with Occupational Safety and Health
Standards (OSHA) and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Covered in the 40-page catalog are lockout/tagout kits and
stations, insulated hand tools, facility signage, and
electrical testers.
Heightened regulatory demands have
made lockout/tagout critical to plant operations. One of the highlights
of the new catalog is IDEAL's complete lockout/tagout training program
for employee safety and OSHA compliance. The kit uses a 10-minute video
to convey the importance of lockout/tagout, as well as to demonstrate
how to properly apply the devices. Reference cards, compliance manual,
and handbooks (10) are included for classroom training.

Kellogg expands deployment of
I.D. Systems’ wireless industrial vehicle management system
I.D. Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDSY), a leading provider of
wireless asset tracking and management solutions, today
announced that it has received a follow-on purchase order
from Kellogg Company to implement I.D. Systems’ Wireless
Asset Net® industrial vehicle management system for a fleet
of material handling equipment at a major Kellogg
manufacturing and distribution facility. This
facility—Kellogg’s second to deploy I.D. Systems’ wireless
technology—is in Battle Creek, Michigan, also the location
of Kellogg’s world headquarters.
“Kellogg wants to adopt best
practices aimed at improving safety, increasing productivity and
reducing costs in their workplace, and I.D. Systems’ wireless technology
is helping Kellogg meet its goals for optimizing industrial fleet
management,” said Peter Fausel, I.D. Systems’ executive vice president
of sales, marketing and customer service. “We are very gratified to
expand our relationship with a world-class consumer products company
like Kellogg and we look forward to reproducing our best-practice
technology for Kellogg at more facilities across their enterprise.”
Kellogg is the world’s leading
producer of cereal and a leading producer of convenience foods, with
2007 sales of nearly $12 billion. Kellogg products are manufactured in
19 countries and distributed in more than 180 countries around the
world.
The Wireless Asset Net system
improves productivity in manufacturing and distribution operations by
establishing accountability for use of equipment, ensuring equipment is
in the proper place at the right time, streamlining work flow through
automated messaging, and providing management with unique metrics on—and
controls over—equipment utilization. The system also improves workplace
safety and security by restricting vehicle access to trained, authorized
operators and providing electronic vehicle inspection checklists. In
addition, the system reduces maintenance expenses by automatically
uploading vehicle data, reporting vehicle problems in real time,
scheduling maintenance according to actual vehicle usage rather than on
a calendar basis, and helping determine the optimal economic time to
replace equipment.

Green Building could triple by
2013, says McGraw-Hill Construction
Green Outlook Report tracks dramatic growth, forecasts
green building over next five years
BOSTON, Nov 18, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The U.S.
green building market is accelerating at a dramatic rate,
says McGraw-Hill Construction's Green Outlook 2009: Trends
Driving Change report, released today at the Greenbuild
International Conference and Expo in Boston, MA. The value
of green building construction starts was up five-fold from
2005 to 2008 (from $10 billion to $36-$49 billion), and
could triple by 2013, reaching $96-$140 billion.
McGraw-Hill Construction's Green
Outlook 2009 estimates the value of the U.S. green building market over
the next five years, providing the first-ever comprehensive insight into
the future of this fast-growing segment of the construction industry,
based on data found in the McGraw-Hill Construction Network -- powered
by the Dodge database, construction industry surveys, data analysis and
analysis of other indicators, including increases in LEED certification
and government regulation.
"Green growth is phenomenal across
the globe," said Harvey M. Bernstein, Vice President of Industry
Analytics, Alliances and Strategic Initiatives, McGraw-Hill
Construction. "The business opportunities afforded by green building,
even in the midst of a global economic crisis, are real and recognized
by industry players. Furthermore, green building has great potential to
help tackle unemployment through green jobs, and can address other
societal issues, such as creating healthier places where we live and
work."
Green building is the bright spot in
an otherwise tough economy. U.S. Green Building Council members report
green building to be less affected by the down market compared to
non-green building, and homebuyers are willing to pay more for a green
home. Perceived economic benefits are driving green building, including
higher revenues, lower lifecycle costs, and lower operating costs, but
builders and buyers are also motivated by health benefits, new
government regulation, and pressure from global competition.
"Green building creates green jobs
that save energy and money," commented Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO,
and Founding Chairman, U.S. Green Building Council. "Our community can
help solve climate change and the economic crisis while building a new
energy economy by putting the greening of existing buildings at the top
of our agenda."
McGraw-Hill Construction attributes
green building's rapid expansion to growing public awareness, an
increase in government regulations, and recognition of bottom-line
advantages. Since 2005, the perceived benefits of green building have
increased and differentiated as people become more knowledgeable about
green building. The decrease in operating costs is the most often cited
benefit (13.6%, up from 8-9% in 2005), followed by the increase in
building values (10.9%, up from 7.5% in 2005).
More information and specific green
building projects can be found in the Green Outlook 2009 Report and on
the GreenSource website (http://greensource.construction.com/projects).
